My family and I have been showing & raising dogs for 11 years.

Between us we have about 35 years experience. During those years we used many types of dog training: Leader of the pack; Alpha; Reward; Positive Reinforcement, and Clicker. None of these methods had the complete answer, with some methods causing more problems than they solved!

Our dogs are so beautiful and smart that sometimes we forget that they need to be trained. We had taken back a 4 year old dog that had bitten it's owner and had become the reluctant 'leader of the pack'. My wife got on the internet and researched for someone that might have the answer we needed to help this dog, and others like her. There HAD to be SOMETHING out there that would work consistently! There had to be a way we could retrain this dog-and all of our others that seemed to have 'minor personality quirks'! She kept looking until she was lead to 'The Answer'.

C.W. Meisterfeld's website listed Dr. Meisterfeld's philosophy, his story, helpful hints and many informational books. One was about a Springer called Jelly Bean which sounded too familiar-too much like Kelly. To save her life from euthanasia we got in touch with Dr. Meisterfeld and found out about his eight week training course. Destiny intervened and I signed up to attend.

After Discussing Kelly with C. W. he decided the biting dog (Kelly) would be too big a project for a beginner like myself. Since we raise and show English Springer Spaniels & Golden Retrievers, we decided to take one of them. Our beautiful foundation male Golden (Remmy) did real well in the ring but had developed some behavior problems. He had developed some fear ( his tail was tucked between this legs) and was barking at dogs and cats. He could not keep his attention on anything else! He had become obsessed. Two cats had found their way into his kennel on two separate occasions and we found them later, dead. C.W. and I discussed Remmy and decided he would be a great project dog for me to start with.

The course didn't start with dogs in the ring. We sat and learned about dendrites and the brain and lots of psychological stuff. Little did I know what I was learning would teach me so much about myself!

We started with all new behavior. We changed Remmy's name, to disassociate him with the past, to begin a new future. I also had to begin creating new behavior. Under Dr. Meisterfeld's intuitive and professional instruction not only was my dog changing before my eyes, I was too. Mutual Respect was the powerful tool we had been searching for.

The change in 'Pete' was almost overnight. His attention span was the first thing I noticed. He focused on me and what I was asking him to do. Then I saw his tail come up and his fear go down. The virtually continuous barking ceased, even when other dogs at our kennels were barking. His confidence increased and he looked HAPPY.

The changes in myself were as equally dramatic. My wife says, 'Amazing.' I have developed more patience. I am not as quick to anger and have actually started to listen and hear what others are saying, not just reacting with emotions. I became more consistent. I became more trustworthy. If I said I would do something, I did it. I began taking time every morning to learn and listen.

At the end of the 8 week course 'Pete' became very confident, his alertness and attention span is at an all time high. He is learning and listening. Other dogs and cats are no longer the focus of his attention. His tail is elevated and wagging all of the time and the fear is gone. I have become more focused. Dr. Meisterfeld's philosophy of Mutual Respect has become the most important thing I have learned and come to understand in my life. Dr Meisterfeld has found the answer we in the dog world are looking for. Mutual Respect.

Sincerly,

Ron Inman
